Digital X-Rays
Dental X-rays are important for many reasons. They can expose hidden dental decay; reveal a dental abscess, cyst or tumor; show impacted or extra teeth; and also help determine the condition of fillings, crowns, bridges and root canals. Dental X-rays can also reveal bone loss from periodontal (gum) disease, locate tartar buildup, find foreign bodies within the gum or bone, and see if there is enough bone for the placement of dental implants. These are just some of the many reasons why dentists rely on dental X-rays.
To take our digital x-rays, we at Just Smiles place a thin sensor next to the patient's tooth. Then an image is taken and uploaded to a computer. We can adjust the contrast and brightness of the image to optimize diagnosis and find even the smallest areas of decay. Even better, we can review the X-rays with the patient on a large flat screen instead of trying to show you on a small regular film.
In addition, the digital X-ray process is much faster than traditionnal X-ray system, thus decreasing the amount of time that the patient is exposed to radiation. In fact, digital xrays require only a fraction (0.18 seconds exposure per film instead of 1 second) of the radiation exposure than traditional ones. This makes the procedure extremely safe and effective.
Finally, digital x-rays makes it extremely easy for us to share them with specialists when our patients are referred and allows to be environmentally conscious by saving paper, ink and chemical developpers used in traditional radiography.
